What is an animation video?
Animation is the art of manipulating an element (in this case, a frame) of an image or video to achieve a desired result. In short, the animation works by creating a motion.
There are many types of animation, but I’ve chosen to create a tutorial on one in particular: b-roll (a.k.a. “background”). If you’ve ever taken video for non-professional use, you’ve probably seen it: a background featuring many different forms of small, moving objects (carpet, shrubbery, lawnmowers, twirling pizza crust, water, etc.). These objects are repeated for long periods of time, creating a variety of images that overlap with one another (often creating what is commonly referred to as a “rainbow”). If you like this type of animation, then you know what I’m talking about.

You’ll need to think about the timing of a character moving through space. You’ll need to think of what the characters’ emotions are. You’ll need to think about where the camera is moving, what it’s looking at, how far away it is, and what kind of angles it’s in.
