Windows 10 Upgrade: How to Update to Windows 10 for Free – Revadvert
Why Should I Upgrade to Windows 10?
If you have ever used a Mac or a Linux computer, you will appreciate the fact that there is always something new to discover and a new app to learn. Some of the coolest apps available on your Android phone might not even be available on Windows 10.
Sure, Windows is more stable and reliable than its rivals, but Windows 10 offers new features and has been built from the ground up to accommodate the modern world and its needs.
For many people who have switched to a laptop with Windows and a smartphone, the time has come to upgrade to Windows 10. Windows 10 offers features that make your life better, simpler, more accessible, and more secure.
It’s not too difficult to know if you should upgrade.
What is Windows 10?
What is Windows 10? The first version of Microsoft’s flagship operating system, Windows 10, was released on July 29, 2015. The initial release was a free upgrade for those running Windows 7 or 8.1. That free upgrade offer is currently over, but there are still ways for those on a non-Windows 7 or 8.1 system to take advantage of the free upgrade offer. Once Windows 10 had been released, Microsoft began charging for the operating system. The first version of Windows 10 was priced at $119.99. Those who had Windows 7 or 8.1 upgraded to Windows 10 before July 29, 2015, were able to upgrade to Windows 10 for free. When Microsoft began charging for Windows 10, it was split into four editions; Home Premium, Home Basic, Professional, and Enterprise. The Pro Edition costs $199.99.
How to Upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 7 or 8
If you haven’t received an automatic Windows 10 upgrade offer yet, you can still try upgrading to Windows 10 using Microsoft’s latest beta release, but be warned – there is a catch.
Microsoft will be trying to automatically install Windows 10 on users’ machines without asking if they want it, as it looks to test various fixes and capabilities before the final release in July.
However, if you want to downgrade back to Windows 7 or Windows 8, you can – and you can also do so before upgrading. It’s a nifty workaround and one that we’ve been encouraging Windows 7 users to try in recent weeks.
Update: Microsoft has now added a “Learn more” link to its Windows 10 upgrading page.
How Will It Affect My App Permissions?
The app requirements vary by which operating system you are running on. For example, a PlayStation 4 does not need an internet connection, but a Windows PC does. In order to see what Windows 10 apps a console requires, download the latest version of the client from Microsoft’s website.
On the plus side, a PC is able to run legacy apps that will run on an Xbox One, as well as some older Windows Phone 8 and 8.1 apps. However, some apps may not run for these older operating systems.
What is the difference between Xbox One and Xbox One S?
Microsoft created the Xbox One S in an attempt to compete with high-end gaming consoles like the PlayStation 4 and the Nintendo Switch. The design is similar to its predecessor, the Xbox One, but with a thinner frame and a new HDMI port.
How To Get The Free Upgrade
Microsoft offered a free Windows 10 upgrade to all Windows 7 and 8.1 customers last week. This does not apply to hardware and/or software that has been pre-installed with either version of Windows. There was no major policy change that explains why Windows 7 and 8.1 machines will still get a free Windows 10 upgrade, and all Windows 7 and 8.1 machines are expected to upgrade within the next year. If you want to upgrade to Windows 10 in the next few weeks, here’s how to make sure you’re part of the next group of machines that will be able to upgrade to the new OS.
Microsoft has run a similar offer in the past and many people have received Windows 10 on their machines since. Last year Microsoft offered Windows 10 free to anyone with Windows 7 or Windows 8.
Who Is Eligible for the Free Upgrade?
For one thing, even if you’ve bought a new PC with Windows 10 preinstalled, there’s a good chance that it has one of the older Intel processors than the processors that are targeted for the new Surface Pro 4. And while you can’t upgrade the CPU, you can still upgrade the RAM.
Another caveat: the lower-priced models, like the Surface Pro 3, can’t be upgraded to Windows 10. You’ll need a model that’s powered by a Core i5 or higher.
To take advantage of this free upgrade, you can buy any new PC with Windows 8.1 and upgrade the OS to Windows 10. You’ll still need to purchase a license for at least 2GB of RAM, but that’s much cheaper than buying a new PC with Windows 10 preinstalled.
If you’ve bought a new Surface Pro 3 and are eligible, there are two ways to get the free upgrade.
With Windows 10, Microsoft has also taken a good step towards making this OS more manageable for businesses and enterprise users as the OS has started taking place on PCs, tablets, and smartphones. As per Microsoft, this new OS helps users spend less time in front of their desktops and instead more time doing the actual job. Windows 10 is not an easy OS to use, as it has many things that still require some time to learn and get used to, as new features have been added and are constantly being added. The OS also lacks a market share, as most of the PC users in the world are using Windows 7 and 8.1.
